Myimagine store : How To Listen To Spatial Audio On A MacBook Pro?

Apple’s spatial audio is a 360-degree sound format that recreates a surround effect through even a tiny pair of earbuds. It's mostly been used to enhance video playback with the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. It’s essentially a form of digital surround sound wherein the origin points of different sounds can envelop you from all directions. The extremely basic version is that your brain is tricked into thinking you’re receiving sound from a fully three-dimensional space even when it’s coming from a set of two drivers either side of your head.

To experience spatial audio on a macbook, you will require a version launched in 2021, that is either the 14 inch Macbook Pro or the 16 inch Macbook Pro.

The next step is to make sure that the Airpods Pro or Airpods (3rd Gen) are up to date in terms of firmware. Tere's no clear cut way to upgrade the firmware of the AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, as the new firmware installs over-the-air when the AirPods are connected to a Mac or iOS device, therefore putting your AirPods in the case, connecting them to a power source, and then pairing the headphones to a iPhone/iPad or Mac should force the update after a short period of time.

To check the firmware of your Airpods or Airpods Pro on a Mac, connect them to the Mac, click the Apple symbol in the menu bar, and select About This Mac -> System Report -> Hardware -> Bluetooth -> Devices. The relevant information about your Airpods will be present here.

Steps to Activate or Deactivate Spatial Audio on Mac: -

1.  Ensure that you're wearing your AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, AirPods (3rd generation), and that they're connected to your MacBook Pro over Bluetooth.

2.  Click the Control Center icon in the menu bar.

3.  Click Sound, then find your AirPods or Beats in the list (for example, "John ‘s AirPods").

4.  Choose Spatial Audio while you're playing multichannel content recorded in Dolby Atmos on either Apple Music or any compatible platform. Choose Stereo Audio to switch back to normal stereo sound.
